Ghanaian filmmaker and chairman of the Ghana Classification Board, Socrate Safo has provided reasons for the movie industry’s lack of growth.
In an interview with 3FM, Mr. Safo explained that a lot of newcomers entered the industry without much education and knowledge about the industry.
He said passion is not just enough to be in the industry as the ignorance of the industry has led to the numerous challenges and the struggles faced in the industry.
Additionally, Socrate Safo highlighted the absence of structured guidance and education as a major issue.
“It’s not growing as its supposed to be; it’s still facing challenges. From what I have seen, it started with ignorance. We did a whole lot of things out of ignorance. We did a whole lot of things out of ignorance, and it gave us challenges. It brought us on our knees,” he said.
He emphasized the need for industry players to receive proper orientation about the industry.
“We didn’t understand the industry; most of us came in without proper orientation. We didn’t receive the orientation about the industry; we entered out of passion.
“You had the talent, but nobody sat you down to give you that orientation. ‘We don’t do this because of ABCD. We don’t do this because of ABCD’ – you didn’t get that, nobody ever did,” he added.
