England after a nervy win over Serbia in their first Euro 2024 game are hoping to go past Denmark to reach the round of 16.

The two sides will clash in their second Group C match on Thursday, 20 June.

Both teams are eager to secure a win and strengthen their positions in the group.

Denmark’s Form

Denmark entered EURO 2024 with high hopes but were left slightly downcast following a 1-1 draw against Slovenia in their opening match.

Kasper Hjulmand’s side took an early lead but were pegged back, resulting in a stalemate in Stuttgart. The Danish team, known for its Premier League experience, will not be overly intimidated by England, despite the pre-tournament billing of Gareth Southgate’s men.

Euro 2024: Germany advance to knockout stages with victory over Hungary

Kasper Hjulmand, Denmark’s coach, remains optimistic about the upcoming challenge.

“We’re facing a great team. [Jude Bellingham] has had a fantastic season. To see a player at his age shine so much with the Champions League winners is fantastic. It’s a new football match compared to three years ago [in the EURO 2020 semi-finals]. It’s a new game, and we will try to win it.”

England’s Form

England began their Euro 2024 campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Serbia, thanks to an early header from Jude Bellingham. Despite the win, the game was far from easy, with Serbia pushing hard and keeping Harry Kane unusually quiet. Gareth Southgate’s men will need to be at their best to overcome a resilient Danish side.

Gareth Southgate acknowledged the challenge ahead stating, “We’re used to a quick turnaround of games.

“You recover as much as you can in a short period of time and get your messages across. Denmark have a very good team and a good coach. We’ve had very tough games against them, not only in the last EURO but also in the Nations League. We know their strengths, and we’ll have to play at our very best.”

Predicted Line-ups

Denmark: Schmeichel; Andersen, Christensen, Vestergaard; Kristiansen, Nørgaard, Eriksen, Højbjerg, Mæhle; Højlund, Poulsen

England: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Guéhi, Trippier; Alexander-Arnold, Rice; Saka, Bellingham, Foden; Kane
Denmark are under pressure after conceding a late equalizer against Slovenia. The stakes are high as they seek redemption following their extra-time defeat to England in the Euro 2020 semi-finals. Christian Eriksen, a key player for Denmark, has the ability to unlock England’s defense, having familiarised himself with English football during his time with Tottenham, Brentford, and Manchester United in England

England, on the other hand, will look to build on their solid, if unspectacular, display against Serbia.

The emergence of Jude Bellingham provides England with an enviable X factor at both ends of the pitch.

With the nerves of the opening game behind them, England will aim to manage their energy levels better throughout the 90 minutes.
