Former Germany player Didi Haman has slammed Cristiano Ronaldo for his antics during the round of 16 game between Portugal and Slovenia in the Euro 2024.

With the game tied at 0-0 in extra time, the record scorer for Selacao was handed the opportunity to put Portugal in the quarter-finals when they were awarded a penalty.

However, Atlético Madrid’s goalkeeper Jan Oblak produced an outstanding save to thwart Ronaldo from the spot. The save also denied the Portugal captain from getting his first goal in the tournament which left the 39-year-old in tears.

Although Portugal progressed on the night, the former Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Hamann was not impressed by the actions of the five-time Balon d’Or winner.
Haman who was working as a pundit on Irish broadcaster RTE, called out the Al Nassr forward for making the game all about him.

“I bought into that nonsense as well, but I think he showed his true colours again tonight. Missing the penalty, he starts crying on the pitch, he starts crying at half-time in extra-time. And I’m thinking ‘it’s all about you, all he thinks about is himself,” he said.

The former manager also suggested that the former Man United star needs his teammates more than they need him.

“39-year-old plays 120 minutes, he misses a penalty and I’ve got to say, I bought into all that ‘Ronaldo has turned into a team player because he needs the team more than he used to,” he added.

Portugal will now face France for a place in the semi-finals on Friday.
