Kuchoko reggae icon and renowned media personality, Ahmed Abubakar aka Blakk Rasta has launched a national campaign dubbed ‘Ghana Patriotism Festival’ to promote the values of patriotism among Ghanaians.

The historic event was held on 2 September, 2024, attracted dignitaries to the Executive Theatre of TV 3 in Accra. It coincided with the 50th anniversary of Blakk Rasta who was born on 2 September, 1974 in Tamale.

According to Blakk Rasta, many of the problems confronting Ghana and by extension Africa result from lack of love and commitment for one’s nation; and hence the urgent need for the promotion of patriotism.

He explained that the theme for the festival “Patriotism is not a Choice” emphasizes the point that the only way to attain social, economic and political development is Patriotism.

“All these issues of corruption, financial malfeasance, ethnocentrism, political violence, misappropriation of state resources, galamsey and indiscipline among other things are due to the lack of patriotism. Lack of patriotism has brought us backward and we need to deal with it” Blakk Rasta stated.

He also recounted some of the opposition he faced from some school authorities while he was embarking on a nationwide senior high school patriotism campaign because of ethnocentrism, partisanship and the lack of understanding of patriotism.

The Ghana Patriotism Festival kick-starts with an Executive concert and listening to Blakk Rasta’s Salga Soljah Album scheduled for 1st October, 2024.

The Patriotism Summit with political parties and various stakeholders towards the promotion of a peaceful election comes off on 10th October, followed by the Kuchoko Roots Festival dubbed the Kuchoko Peace Concert on Saturday 12 October at the La Pleasure Beach.
