0 President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe has revealed how frustrated he feels when he sees countries play their home games outside of their countries.
Ghana’s media was sent into a frenzy last week when news broke that CAF has withdrawn the approval for the Baba Yara Stadium for the October AFCON Qualifiers, a situation that leaves Ghana without a single stadium fit enough to host the qualifiers.
And Motsepe speaking at a press briefing in Kenya couldn’t help but reveal his frustration with the situation that has been ongoing for quite a while.
“There’s nothing that frustrates me more than a national team or a football team from,
But from a country to go and play outside.
You can’t build football in any country in Africa if the national team or the football clubs do not play in front of their nations,” he said.
The CAF President also went on to announce how the association has been able to reduce the number of countries that used to play outside of their countries, while also revealing the plan to ensure there are enough stadiums fit enough to host CAF matches.
“I’m very clear that we’ve made good success in reducing the number of Countries that play outside their nation. In every meeting I have with the Head of State, the emphasis is to work together to make sure that we’ve got at least one Stadium that is at FIFA and CAF standards,” he added.
Dr Patrice Motsepe chaired CAF’s Executive Committee meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, on Monday, 16 September 2024 and part of the agenda included a decision on the host of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
