2012 AFCON Winner Rainford Kalaba passes on after involvement in car crash

A car accident has claimed the life of Zambia football legend Rainford Kalaba who was in a critical condition after sustaining major injuries in the crash.

The crash was reported earlier today with the former TP Mazembe star’s car was found in a poor condition after colliding head on with a heavy truck. Another individual, reportedly his unnamed partner, also passed on

News of his passing was reported by Zambia Daily Mail; Kalaba was 37 years old and was an accomplished winner in the African club football setting.

Kalaba won the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Super Cup during his time with DR Congolese side TP Mazembe from 2011 to 2023.

He played for Zambian clubs Kitwe United and ZESCO United and had loan spells at Portuguese clubs Gil Vicente and Leiria.

However, he will be best remembered as a member of the famous Zambian football team that beat the odds to win the 2012 AFCON.
