0 Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Spokesperson of president-elect John Dramani Mahama, has refuted claims that Dr Callistus Abukari Mahama is related to John Mahama.
In a Facebook post on December 12, 2024, Joyce Bawa clarified that the President-elect has no familiar relations with Dr. Callistus Mahama.
‘‘Dr Callistus Abukari Mahama has no familial relations with the President-elect, HE John Dramani Mahama! Kindly take note,” Joyce Bawah wrote on Facebook.
She further explained in the comment section of her post that “that is the fact that I am putting out because what Ayikoi Otoo said is a lie. Please we are not even talking about qualifications I beg you. The NPP big man has told us a lie to the whole world and that is unfair and wrong and has to be corrected.”
This clarification has become necessary after a stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nii Ayikoi Otoo claimed in an interview on TV3 on Wednesday, December 11, that John Mahama has relations with Dr. Callistus Mahama, after the latter was appointed as a member/Secretary to the Transition Team.
On Tuesday, December 10 when President-elect John Mahama named his transition team, Dr. Callistus Mahama appeared to be included in the team. For the mere fact that he possesses the surname, Mahama, some persons including the former Attorney General Nii Ayikoi Otoo insinuated that the appointee has family relations with president-elect, John Mahama.

However, Mahama’s spokesperson, Bawah Mogtari has debunked any familial relations between the President-elect and his appointee.
Meanwhile, Dr. Callistus Mahama is an experienced public administrator and academic. He previously served as the Head of the Local Government Service under the erstwhile John Mahama administration.
