Prof. Joshua Alabi, campaign lead for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections, has explained why the party achieved its highest-ever votes in the Ashanti Region.

According to Prof. Alabi, the NDC’s 33% share of votes in the region could be attributed to their vigilance in preventing electoral rigging, despite low voter turnout.

“Our focus was on ensuring that only registered voters cast their ballots, reducing the likelihood of multiple voting,” Prof. Alabi said on Hot Issues. “While low turnout was a factor, our vigilance also played a role in preventing fraudulent voting.”

Prof. Alabi noted that some senior NDC members believe the party’s previous election results were inaccurate.

However, he believes the 2024 election results in the Ashanti Region truly reflect the party’s support base, and they will work to improve this in future elections.

“Some of us have always questioned the authenticity of our votes in the Ashanti Region,” Prof. Alabi added. “But I believe the 2024 results are a true reflection of our support, and we’ll strive to build on this in 2028.”
