Mathias Pogba, brother of Paul Pogba, has been sentenced to three years in prison for his involvement in a £11m ($14m) blackmail scheme against the former Manchester United and Juventus star.

The Paris court imposed a two-year suspended sentence, with the 34-year-old required to serve one year under an electronic bracelet.

The plot, uncovered in late 2022, saw a group of childhood friends, including Mathias, demand money from Paul for “protection services” spanning 13 years.

Paul Pogba had previously revealed the pressure from his brother and others, even contemplating retirement amid the extortion.

The verdict offers a sense of closure for Paul, who is set to return to football in March 2025 after a reduced 18-month doping ban.

Currently a free agent, Pogba hopes to move on from this scandal and secure a new club soon.
