The 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic in Ghana has officially dissolved today, concluding its legislative term which began in 2021.

This marks a significant milestone in the country’s democratic journey. The dissolution ceremony is currently underway, presided over by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

Meanwhile, former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu in an interview with Channel One TV, criticized the 8th Parliament for its perceived failure to effectively curb excessive government borrowing.

He argues that the hung parliament, despite its potential, did not adequately check the executive branch, contributing to the country’s current economic challenges.

Iddrisu believes that a more proactive and stringent approach from Parliament could have prevented the unsustainable national debt burden.
