Asante Kotoko will be without their top scorer, Albert Amoah, for two months following an anterior talofibular ligament injury in his right leg.
The injury occurred during their Ghana Premier League (GPL) Week 16 clash against Medeama SC at the TnA Stadium.
Head coach Prosper Nartey Ogum confirmed the setback and said. “It’s tough losing both Albert and Kotei at this busy stage of the season. I was immediately concerned when it happened, Albert is naturally strong, but his reaction to the impact was worrying. Injuries are part of the game, though, and we’re hopeful he’ll recover quickly, as he’s done before.”
Amoah, who has been in remarkable form for the Porcupines, is currently the team’s top scorer in the GPL, with seven goals to his name. The former Great Olympics forward was also part of the Black Galaxies squad that missed out on qualification for this year’s CHAN tournament.
This injury is a significant blow to Kotoko’s title ambitions, but the recent form of Kwame Poku and the arrival of new signing Sampson Eduku could prove vital in maintaining their push for the championship.
