Mahama appoints Edward Bawa as acting CEO of GNPC

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Edward Abambire Bawa as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

The appointment is in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 constitution and section 10(2) of the GNPC Act, 1983(P.N.D.C.L.64).

Edward Bawa’s appointment takes effect from January 17, 2025, this was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama.

The letter stated, “His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 10(2) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Act, 1983 (P.N.D.C.L. 64), has appointed you as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation pending receipt of the required advice of the Honourable Minister for Energy, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.”

Edward Bawa has served as a Member of Parliament for the Bongo constituency in the Seventh and Eight Parliament in 2016 and 2020. He lost the NDC’s primaries in his third bid to represent the Bongo constituency.

Edward Abambire Bawa served as a member of the Poverty Reduction Strategy Reduction Committee and also served as a member of the Mines and Energy Committee of the Eighth (8th) Parliament of Ghana.

The former MP brings his wealth of experience in the field of Mines and Energy to steer the affairs of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation.

Edward Bawa has previously held the role of Head of Communication for World Bank project (oil and gas capacity building project) of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.
