At the moment, everything Augustine Boakye touches turns to goals.
Boakye bagged his third league goal of the season on Sunday in St Etienne’s 1-1 home draw against Nantes.
One thing that has been a standout to his game has been the importance attached to Boakye’s goals.
His first pair of goals for the club arrived two weeks ago when he over turned a one-goal deficit all by himself in a clash against Reims; they eventually won the game 3-1.
Against Nantes over the weekend, his 88th minute strike canceled out Moses Simon’s opener.
It has taken quite some time to get up to speed in the league but Boakye seems to have finally arrived; announcing himself with clutch moments.
After St Etienne purchased him for €3m from Wolfsberger AC ahead of the start of the ongoing season, the weight of expectation was palpable.
His ability to dazzle and effortlessly weave and create sparks with the ball was one thing that appealed to St Etienne’s technical team and top hierarchy.
Boakye’s numbers, per his standards, were great, prior to moving to Fracnce.
In 54 games in all competitions for Wolfsberger, he was involved in 28 goals (15 goals, 13 assists).
However, in France, the former WAFA Academy talent had struggled to announce himself until his breakthrough two weeks ago.
At the WAFA Academy, where he took his first steps in a bid to reach the apex of football, Boakye produced similar numbers as he did in Austria.
He was involved in 22 goals, of which 12 were assists while 10 were goals.
After the early struggles of trying to adapt to a new environment and struggling with injuries and suspension, Boakye is now a bird set free.
If the above preamble is anything to go by, then by time he hits the half century mark for games, the attacking midfielder should have in excess of 20 goal involvements.
Boakye is so far repaying his managers fate and gradually putting in sterling performances.
