Twenty-two Ghanaian referees have been awarded FIFA badges for the 2025 football season, following their recognition at a brief ceremony held at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) headquarters in Accra on January 21, 2025.
FIFA annually issues badges to top-ranked referees, based on their performance in the preceding year and their results in the FIFA Test.
This year’s recipients include 10 Center Referees, 10 Assistant Referees, one Futsal Referee, one Beach Soccer Referee, and one Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Of the 22 officials, 12 are male, and 8 are female, reflecting Ghana’s growing representation in international officiating.
GFA President Kurt Okraku congratulated the referees on their achievements, emphasising their role as ambassadors of Ghanaian football.
“Your performances have justified the trust CAF and FIFA have in you. This recognition reflects your dedication and excellence,” he said while urging them to aim even higher.
The ceremony also addressed the challenges referees face and underscored the importance of maintaining high standards. GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo reiterated the need for consistent excellence, as FIFA reviews the badges annually.
The event saw the presentation of badges by President Okraku, General Secretary Addo, and Referees Appointment Committee Chairperson Christine Enyonam Zigah, with other committee members and officials present.
