Medeama SC have confirmed the appointment of Ibrahim Tanko as their new head coach on a two-and-half-year contract.

The former Ghana international, who holds a UEFA Licence A certificate, takes over from Augustine Evans Adotey, who reverts to his original role as technical director.

“Medeama Sporting Club is pleased to confirm the appointment of Coach Ibrahim Tanko on a two-and-half-year contract. The UEFA License A holder has completed formalities and replaces technical director Augustine Evans Adotey,” the club announced in a statement on Wednesday.

Tanko, nicknamed ‘Bullet,’ brings vast experience to the Ghanaian champions, having previously coached at Accra Lions and served as an assistant coach for Cameroon’s national team, as well as Ghana’s Black Meteors and Black Galaxies. His coaching journey also includes stints in Japan’s J League and Germany’s Bundesliga.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward will oversee his first training session with the squad on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Akoon Community Park before officially taking charge on Thursday.

Tanko’s first match as Medeama boss will be against Legon Cities on Sunday at TnA Stadium. Medeama are winless in their last four games.
