Ghana’s Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed concern over ongoing discussions regarding the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo.
Following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Addo faced strong criticism. However, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) voted to retain him, with a recent revamp of his technical team to improve the team’s performance ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Speaking on Sporty FM, Adams revealed that doubts over Addo’s tenure extend beyond fans and officials, with some players also questioning his leadership.
“The future of Otto Addo is a matter of concern to me. This concern of stay or not stay is not just coming from the non-playing body—that is what is of great concern to me,” Adams said. “Not just the fans, but the engagements I have had go beyond that to even the playing body and some members of the GFA (current and former).”
Meanwhile, Addo is currently on a European tour, meeting with key players, including Thomas Partey and Alexander Djiku, as he looks to strengthen the Black Stars squad.
Adams, who appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting on Thursday, January 30, is expected to be sworn in as the Minister for Sports and Recreation in the coming days.
