The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana has slammed the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) over the arrest of five persons in connection with the importation of unwholesome baby diapers into the country.
The FDA destroyed some 40-footer containers of the diapers seized at its recycling plant at Ashaiman and cautioned manufacturers, importers, and distributors of baby diapers against importing unhygienic baby diapers, also known as bale diapers.
Speaking to Citi News, the Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association, Sampson Asaki Awingobit said the negligence of the FDA is to blame for such occurrence.
“Are they [FDA] sleeping over their work, or what is it? Because I do know that you cannot just wake up and bring anything into this country.
“This has to with the Public Health Act, which states that you cannot bring anything into the country without passing through the FDA. And so the FDA should be ashamed of themselves to tell us they are sorry and apologise to Ghanaians.”
