0 The Minister of Labour, Employment, and Job Creation, Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, has embarked on a familiarization visit to the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) as part of his tour of agencies under the Ministry.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Minister to formally introduce himself to the Authority and gain first-hand insight into its operations, challenges, and regulatory landscape. It also served as a platform to explore areas of collaboration between the Ministry and the NPRA in strengthening Ghana’s pension system to ensure retirement income security for workers across the country.
The minister, in his remarks, urged the management and staff of the Authority to shift their focus beyond personal gains and embrace a mindset of service, dedicated to improving the lives of Ghanaians. He challenged the Authority to take a broader perspective on strengthening the pension system, emphasizing the need for innovation and impactful reforms.
Expressing his vision for progress, he stated that by the end of his tenure, he hopes to see the Authority celebrating achievements rather than grappling with persistent challenges. He called for unwavering commitment to enhancing the pension system, ensuring sustainable retirement income security for Ghanaian workers.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Mr. Christopher Boadi-Mensah, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to working closely with the Minister to drive transformation and innovation in Ghana’s pension sector. He highlighted the urgent need to bridge coverage gaps in the informal sector and pledged to implement strategic initiatives that align with the government’s vision for social protection and economic security for all Ghanaians.
Mr. Boadi-Mensah emphasized the Authority’s determination to enforce full compliance within the formal sector while advancing key reforms to enhance pension inclusivity, transparency, and efficiency. These efforts, he noted, are essential to safeguarding pension funds and protecting the interests of contributors.
He also called on the Minister for guidance, support, and policy direction to help navigate the evolving landscape of pensions in Ghana.
The Minister’s visit to the Authority marks his first official engagement since his appointment as Minister of Labour, Employment, and Job Creation by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana.
