0 The legal team representing the former Director of the National Signal Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, has strongly rejected claims that he and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, are criminals.
They argued that no wrongdoer would voluntarily present themselves at the scene of their arrest.
In a statement signed by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, he questioned the basis of the arrest, stating that the circumstances do not align with the actions of a fugitive or a criminal avoiding justice.
“Rehearsed criminals do not voluntarily go to the place of their arrest. They run away and become fugitives from justice,” the lawyers said.
They stated that Mr Boahene willingly travelled through Kotoka International Airport, a high-security zone, instead of evading authorities through illegal border routes.
His legal team also dismissed claims that he flew economy class in an attempt to disguise himself, insisting that he travelled in business class, a verifiable fact.
The defence argued that their clients are being wrongfully persecuted and publicly humiliated, rather than given a fair legal process.
They also criticise the Attorney-General for conducting a “trial by media” instead of allowing due process to take its course.
Mr Boahene has been accused of embezzling state funds and laundering them through real estate investments, including a $7 million cyber defence system contract.
However, his lawyers maintain that the arrests were politically motivated and lacked due process.
