Nottingham Forest winger Hudson-Odoi is eyeing a return back to England’s fold despite his eligibility to play for Ghana.
Born to Ghanaian parents, Hudson-Odoi has represented the English national team from the youth setup to the senior side.
Odoi, capped three times from England, is yet to feature for the three Lions in six years.
After bursting onto the scene as a young prospect from Chelsea’s academy in 2018, Odoi’s rapid rise was truncated when he ruptured his Achilles tendon in a game against Burnely in 2019.
The injury kept the winger out for seven months, ultimately affecting his output.
Odoi never seemed to hit the heights and promise showcased before his injury, leading to him being loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen by Chelsea as a result.
At Leverkusen, Odoi showcased glimpses of his potential but largely falttered to deceive.
Nottingham Forest gambled on his signing in September 2023, a move which has so far yielded results.
Odoi’s brilliance has left Forest on the cusp of securing European qualification for the first time in over two decades.
However, Odoi’s seven goal-involvements in 25 games did little to convince new manager Thomas Tuchel to give the 24-year-old a slot in England’s 26-man squad for the latest international window.
Despite that, Odoi remains hopeful of an England recall
“If the possibility and chance [for England] comes – I will have to go there and prove myself all over again,” he told BBC.
His comments suggests the forward is open to playing for England, casting doubts over his association with Ghana, who he was open to representing in May 2024.
Odoi has yet to feature for England since November 2019 against Kosovo.
