[Mobile Reporter Nam Ki-woong] The Ministry of Environment and Sejong Special Self-Governing City announced that the completion ceremony for the ‘Sejong Daepyeong Hydrogen Charging Station’, Sejong City’s first hydrogen bus-only charging station, will be held at the charging station site on the afternoon of May 2.
At the completion ceremony on this day, △Lee Chang-heum, Director of the Climate and Carbon Policy Office of the Ministry of Environment, △Sejong City Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Seung-won Lee, △Kim Hong-rak, Director of the Urban Planning Department at the Multifunctional Administrative City Construction Agency, △Sejong City Council Member Lee Hyun-jung, △Sejong City Council Member Kim Dong-bin, △Do Sun-gu, President of Sejong City Transportation Corporation, △Lee Chang-deok, CEO of Sejong Transportation, and △Kohygen CEO Kim Se-ho will attend.
Sejong Daepyeong Hydrogen Charging Station was selected by the Ministry of Environment for the ‘2022 Hydrogen Electric Vehicle Charging Station Installation Private Capital Subsidy Project’ and will be funded over two years with △ 4.2 billion won in government funds, △ 1.35 billion won in land purchase costs from Sejong Special Self-Governing City, and △ 3.8 billion won in private capital from Koheizen. A total of 9.35 billion won was invested.
This hydrogen charging station is the first hydrogen bus-only charging station operated in Sejong. It passed the completion inspection on January 31 of this year and underwent a three-month test run to stabilize the system.
It is capable of charging about 270 hydrogen buses on average per day, making it the largest in the central region. It is located in the center of the garage used by about 300 city buses per day, and is expected to promote Sejong City’s stable hydrogen bus supply policy.
Currently, 11 hydrogen buses have been shipped to Sejong and are undergoing trial operation, and 34 hydrogen buses will be added in the first half of the year, for a total of 45 hydrogen buses scheduled to be operated this year.
Sejong City plans to publicize its symbolism as a city of Korean culture by distributing hydrogen buses decorated with the Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon pattern.
Lee Chang-heum, head of the Climate and Carbon Policy Office at the Ministry of Environment, said, “Because internal combustion engine buses emit about 30 times more greenhouse gases and about 43 times more fine dust than passenger cars, the introduction of hydrogen buses, which are zero-emission vehicles, is very effective in improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gases.” “The Ministry of Environment will continue to spare no support in building hydrogen charging stations to foster the hydrogen vehicle ecosystem,” he said.
