Former Asante Kotoko star Karim Abdul Razak expressed his reservations regarding the recent meeting between owner Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the playing body.

The meeting, held at Manhyia Palace, was convened after Kotoko endured a winless streak of seven games in the Ghana Premier League, losing six matches in the process.

The poor results led to confusion among stakeholders, with some fans even disrupting a training session to demand the removal of coach Prosper Ogum.

Asantehene called for the meeting to address the concerns, where various issues were discussed, and he publicly backed Ogum to continue his role despite fan unrest.

However, Razak believes that the team should have resolved their issues internally without involving Asantehene. He opined that visits to Manhyia Palace should be reserved for celebratory occasions, recalling his own experience as a coach when he only visited the palace after winning the league.

Steven Mukwala: The motivation and words of wisdom from the King has motivated us a lot. It was a way of reminding everyone how big Kotoko is. That’s the motivation we have right now. pic.twitter.com/P1fay5kw7C

Razak clarified his stance, stating, “I didn’t say going there [Manhyia] is good or bad but when I was appointed I never went to Manhyia until I took the trophy there, and up till today, I haven’t been there.”

Since the meeting, Kotoko have shown improved performance, going three games without a defeat, securing two wins and revitalizing their prospects for a top-four finish.

“They went to Manhyia and I have won, drawn and won again. They should continue. When a coach asks you to do something, do it. All coaches are different but we are the same in discipline. No footballer is better than the coach,” Razak emphasized.

Kotoko’s upcoming fixture is an away game against Berekum Chelsea.
