After 50 years in the music industry, the legendary Highlife Maestro Amakye Dede will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award at the 25th anniversary of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

His musical career started when he joined the Kumapim Royals, a well-known Highlife group fronted by Ghanaian Highlife superstar Akwasi Ampofo Agyei (AAA), as a composer and vocalist.

Later, Amakye Dede formed his own band, the Apollo High Kings, who were known for releasing a lot of Highlife songs in the 1980s and 1990s.

With a history that includes twenty (20) albums and a sizable song catalog, Amakye’s enormous influence has influenced not only the Highlife scene but also numerous generations of musicians and music enthusiasts.

Over the years, “Iron Boy,” as he is lovingly referred to by Ghanaians, has experimented with several genres such as Soca, Calypso, Lovers Rock, etc., and integrated them into our rich indigenous sound, Highlife.

Notable songs by the Highlife Maestro include “Iron Boy,” “Su fre wo Nyame,” “Asem to me a ka bi ma me,” “Dabidabi Ebeye Yie,” “Mmaa Pe sokoo,” and “Bebrebe Yi,” to name a few.
