[Reporter Kim Sang-il] Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon reaffirmed his unwavering determination to pursue the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province, while also expressing his determination to tackle the situation head-on by preparing for more specific and certain changes.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon met with provincial lawmakers belonging to the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province Establishment Special Committee of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council at the Paju Social Welfare Book Village on the afternoon of the 28th and made this announcement.
In his greeting that day, Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, “I think there were a lot of conversations about the Northern Special Self-Governing Province during my business trip,” and added, “To conclude, we will push forward without any disruption or wavering.”
Governor Kim continued, “We are doing big things, but why can’t something like this happen?” He added, “As these challenges are dealt with, ultimately, I think there will be better opportunities and, looking at it positively, interest in special investment will increase.” .
Governor Kim, who said that he met with the elected members of the 22nd National Assembly last Friday and asked them to pass the Special Act on the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province, said, “The elected members of the northern region expressed their strong will for the Northern Special Self-Governing Province.
“I plan to go to the National Assembly next week and meet many people,” he also explained his future plans.
Governor Kim also emphasized, “If what we have prepared so far was Stage 1, we are preparing more specific and definite changes than Stage 2,” and added, “We will break through head-on and achieve good results.”
About 20 people attended the meeting, including special committee chairman Im Sang-oh, Gyeonggi Province’s second vice-governor Oh Oh-seok, and provincial lawmakers.
The event was prepared to discuss pending issues regarding the establishment of a special self-governing province and ways to spread consensus among residents.
Special Committee Chairman Im Sang-oh, who attended the meeting, said, “In any case, northern lawmakers and residents in the northern part of the country actually want a special self-governing province,” and added, “Isn’t the future task how to communicate with the residents?” think.
“I hope we can become a special self-governing province where residents can sympathize with more communication,” he said.
The Special Committee for the Establishment of the Gyeonggi Northern Special Self-Governing Province, formed in July of last year, has 20 members, including Chairman Im Sang-oh.
In October last year, a letter was submitted to the National Assembly’s Public Administration and Security Committee and the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee requesting a referendum on the establishment of the Northern Gyeonggi Special Self-Governing Province and the enactment of a special law.
In November last year, a resolution calling for a referendum on the establishment of the Northern Gyeonggi Special Self-Governing Province and the enactment of a special law was prepared and passed at the plenary session on November 9.
In addition, the special committee is touring cities and counties in northern Gyeonggi Province and is working to establish the northern Gyeonggi Special Self-Governing Province.
