The Office of Inter-Party Affairs and Civil Society Organizations (CSO) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, has held a policy dialogue with the Center for Democratic Development (CDD).
The engagement aimed to discuss crucial governance reforms and strengthen collaboration with industry players and civil society.
During the dialogue, Dr. Otokunor assured that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is committed to restructuring the entire governance system, highlighting the current shortcomings under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
He emphasised the NDC’s history of impactful interventions, such as the introduction of the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), which significantly improved public financial management.
Dr. Otokunor reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to periodic engagements with industry players and stressed John Mahama’s readiness to create jobs for the youth through the proposed 24-hour economy.
He also mentioned the party’s dedication to championing agricultural advancements to bolster the sector.
The CDD, in its response, appreciated the NDC’s creation of the Inter-Party Affairs and CSO directorate.
They praised the NDC for introducing the Local Government Act, which has been pivotal in decentralizing governance, though they noted that more efforts are needed to build public trust in local government reforms.
Additionally, the CDD highlighted the despondency among Ghanaian youth and the necessity to restore their hope through meaningful opportunities.
The discussions also touched on the need for more democratic security reforms, with the CDD pointing out the excessive political interference in the security sector.
Dr. Otokunor acknowledged these concerns and appreciated the CDD’s inputs, reaffirming that the NDC established the directorate to strengthen bonds with civil society and address such critical issues.
The dialogue concluded with a mutual understanding of the importance of ongoing collaboration to address the nation’s pressing challenges and enhance democratic governance.
