0 Doctors at the Oncology Department of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Monday, June 24 abandoned the Consulting Room because the radiotherapy machine has developed a fault since October 2023.
The Water Phantom unit on the machine has been malfunctioning.
“This component is used as a standard device for measuring the dose in the radiation process” an aggrieved doctor who wants to remain anonymous told 3news.com.
The Outpatient Department for Oncology had over a dozen patients. “Only the Head of Department and one clinician are currently attending to the numbers here, the doctors didn’t work” a nurse at the Oncology Department told Evans-Nkum.
In a phone conversation with the CEO of KATH minutes before he entered into a board meeting, he said “letter of credit has been raised to fix the problem, we have discussed that with the doctors, and we hope they understand the situation” Prof Addai-Mensah assured.
