0 The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama has cautioned the general public to desist from relying on middlemen (goroboys) in the acquisition of meters.
He says the system has been digilistise to make it easier for a person to acquire a meter and also for property documentation.
Asked how long it takes to get a meter, Mr Dubik Mahama told journalists that with the new service connection, it takes not more than seven days for a person to obtain the meter.
“The online application for matter is effective, you can use *226 to apply, with the loss reduction program, it should take you a minimum of one week to acquire the meter after payment. This is for a new service connection, you build a new house and need a meter, you will get it in seven days.
“We know that there are goroboys in the system and so we have started our premium service. If you need a meter immediately don’t pay to any gorobo.
“Under PURC single face, you pay GHC 1200 to ECG, you pay this online. the 3 phase meter is GHC2300 . I will urge the public to use the app or go to the ECG offices and pay what the PURC has approved. Let us use the right channels.”
Mr Mahama further observed that people who owe ECG usually call on influential political personalities to intervene whenever ECG officials go around to collect their debts.
This, he said, must stop because electricity issues should not be politicised.
“I will appeal that we don’t politicise power. you go and take your money then they try to call big politicians to intervene. let is not politicize power,” he said.
