Hearts of Oak legend Mohammed Polo has strongly criticised coach Aboubakar Ouattara, labelling him incompetent and calling for his immediate dismissal.

This follows the club’s dismal start to the season, with back-to-back defeats leaving them at the bottom of the table.

Ouattara, who raised expectations with an unbeaten start as coach, almost led the team to relegation last season.

Now, both fans and a club legend are questioning his ability to lead.

“Ouattara nearly led the team to relegation last season. Why stick with such a coach?” Polo told Bryt FM in Koforidua.

Hearts of Oak began their campaign with a shock defeat to newly promoted Basake Holy Stars, followed by a 2-0 loss to Heart of Lions.

The Basake defeat created tension at the Accra Sports Stadium, with police having to protect Ouattara, who avoided the post-match press conference.

Mohammed Polo had two stints as Hearts of Oak coach after playing for them for three years

“He simply cannot turn things around. It took Jones Attuquayefio five years to build a competitive team, but Ouattara’s situation is different.

“If debutants like Basake Holy Stars can defeat you at home, when will you elevate your game?” Polo added.

Hearts of Oak have flirted with relegation in the past two seasons after winning their 21st Ghana Premier League title in 2021.

The club, which won the African Champions League in 2000 and remains the only Ghanaian club to win a treble, is now struggling.

“This isn’t the Hearts of Oak we once knew. The team is suffering from poor management and a lack of a competent coach who can enhance player performance,” Polo concluded.
