Ghana has been featured in Netflix’s Global release ‘Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy’ which explores the human and environmental impact of these corporate practices, particularly on the Global South – including plastic pollution; fast fashion and textiles; big tech, planned obsolescence and e-waste and fast-moving consumer goods.
With Ghana as a case study, the film features whistleblowers and insiders from some of the world’s most powerful brands, including Apple, Amazon and Adidas as well as putting the spotlight on fashion brands like H&M, Shein and Zara.
Launched on Nov 20 at a screening in London, Buy Now! The Shopping Conspiracy as of November 22, 2024 was amongst the top 10 most watched films across the US (no. 3), UK and Europe (no. 2).
Produced by the Academy Award-winning Grain Media, the film lifts the lid on the secretive world of the most influential brands like Amazon, Adidas and Shein, with insiders and whistleblowers exposing the covert manipulation tricks to keep consumers buying.
