MP-elect for Gomoa Central Constituency, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has shared his perspective on his role in Ghana’s Parliament as an independent candidate.

In a recent interview with Kemini Amanor on TV3’s Election Command Centre on Monday January 6, 2025, A-Plus discussed the unique position he holds, his approach to governance, and his vision for the constituency.

A-Plus, who won the Gomoa Central seat as an independent candidate, emphasized that his work in Parliament will not hinge on alliances.

With the National Democratic Congress (NDC) holding a significant majority, A-Plus dismissed the idea that he would wield no influence. He noted that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), which he termed a “micro minority,” could be a force to reckon with.

“The fact that NDC has a majority with over 56 seats won by less than 500 votes should let them know that the task ahead is huge,” he said.

A-Plus highlighted his track record of holding governments accountable and cautioned against complacency, stating, “We are experts in bringing governments down. We have done this over and over. If you are not doing the right thing, we are going to deal with you.”

Despite his critical stance, A-Plus expressed openness to working with the NDC, who he believes have shown readiness to collaborate.

He trusts that their promises will hold weight, unlike those of the NPP, which he criticized for their past failures to honor commitments.

“This is not about majority or minority. They need everyone. You cannot be in Ghana and not need A-Plus,” he stated.

Addressing whether his demands for collaboration would include monetary gains, A-Plus firmly denied any financial motivations. Instead, he outlined his priorities, which focus on development projects for his constituency.

“My only demands are fixing roads from Winneba Junction to Swedru to Apam and improving infrastructure. These are big towns, yet the roads are terrible. Nobody in my constituency buys white shirts because they will turn brown from the dust,” he explained.

A-Plus stressed his commitment to projects that will bring tangible benefits to his constituents rather than personal enrichment.

Describing himself as a deeply spiritual person, A-Plus shared that his confidence in his electoral victory was driven by intuition and faith.

“I’ve never been desperate. I’m just working, focused, and in tune with my inner spirit,” he said.

As an independent candidate, A-Plus brings a fresh and pragmatic approach to Parliament, prioritizing the needs of his constituency over party politics.
