President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dzifa Abla Gomashie, former Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, to head the ministry in his newly inaugurated government.
The appointment of the Ketu South MP was expected and touted by many players in the Creatives Arts industry.
Dzifa Gomashie brings decades of experience as an actress, cultural advocate, and policymaker.
As a former Deputy Minister under Mahama’s previous administration, she played a significant role in promoting Ghana’s tourism and creative industries.
Her hands-on experience in the arts and her commitment to cultural preservation make her a natural fit for this role.
Stakeholders, including industry experts and cultural commentators, have praised her understanding of the sector’s unique challenges and opportunities.
George Quaye, a prominent industry advocate, recently described her as “the best fit for the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts,” citing her passion and track record in advocating for creative professionals.
Industry insiders have also suggested that the President may eliminate the position of Deputy Minister for Tourism, a move aimed at improving efficiency and reducing bureaucratic delays.
Calls for such reforms have been gaining traction, with stakeholders urging a more focused leadership to tackle the sector’s pressing issues.

Pending parliamentary approval for Dzifa Gomashie as Minister of Tourism
As with all ministerial appointments, Dzifa Gomashie’s nomination will require parliamentary vetting and approval. Given her credentials and broad support within the industry, her confirmation is widely anticipated.
Once approved, her leadership would need to focus on creating a turning point for Ghana’s tourism, culture, and creative arts sector, setting the stage for a new era of growth and innovation.
During the former Nana Akufo-Addo led administration, the tourism industry reportedly saw a boost from initiatives such as Year of Return and subsequently, Beyond The Return.
