A member of the National Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Sammy Ayeh, has lauded former President John Dramani Mahama for achieving significant milestones within the first two weeks of his 120-day social contract with Ghanaians.
Dr. Ayeh’s commendation comes after an evaluation of the progress made in fulfilling the promises outlined in the former President’s detailed plan for his first 120 days in office.
Speaking in an interview on NewDay, TV3, Dr. Ayeh highlighted the progress made on 5 out of the 26 interventions pledged by Mr. Mahama, representing 20% of the commitments outlined in the social contract.
“Yesterday, I was reviewing President Mahama’s achievements over the past 14 days, and I think it is worthy of note that we commend him for the good work he is doing.
“Before the election, President Mahama presented a 120-day social contract with the people of Ghana, which included 26 specific interventions his government would undertake. As of now, five of those promises have already been fulfilled,” Dr. Ayeh noted.
Dr. Ayeh outlined key areas where progress has been made:
Nomination of Cabinet Ministers: “Yesterday I realised that President Mahama has done five out of the 26. When you read that document, the first one is to nominate within the first 14 days, complete list of cabinet ministers. I think that has been achieved.”
Constitution of a Lean and Efficient Government: “Number two, to constitute the leanest and the most efficient government. For me, he has reduced the number of ministries from 30 to 23. He has reduced the number of ministers from about 123, 124 to 60 that has been done.”
24-Hour Economy Policy: “When you go to point seven, President Mahama said that he will commence drafting needed legal amendments and prepare for implementation of 24-hour economy policy. Under the Office of the President, as we speak, a presidential adviser on 24-hour economy has been appointed where the needed legal framework is being prepared.”
No Academic Fee Policy: “When he read point 10, he said that he will implement no academic fee policy. Only two days ago, you heard the education minister saying that they will refund the money paid by first-year students to them, which is very important that we note.”
Reopening Unresolved Criminal Cases: “Point 23, President Mahama said he will reopen investigations into major unresolved criminal cases like the 2020 deaths of eight people like the Ayawaso and all that. That is five out of the 26, 20%.”
Dr. Ayeh expressed his admiration for President Mahama’s swift progress in his statement, “If President Mahama has achieved 20% of his social contract in just 14 days, it speaks volumes about his dedication and efficiency. This is something we must commend,” he said.
As the 120-day period progresses, Ghanaians will be closely monitoring President Mahama’s administration to see how it continues to deliver on its promises.
Dr. Ayeh’s comments reflect growing optimism within the NDC about the government’s ability to meet its ambitious goals.
