Ebi Bright, the parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema Central Constituency, has filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the declaration of Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as Member of Parliament for the constituency.
The petition, filed on January 22, 2025, alleges electoral irregularities and misconduct during the December 7, 2024, parliamentary elections.
Ebi Bright claims in her petition that the Electoral Commission (EC) wrongfully declared Charles Forson as the winner despite alleged discrepancies in the election results.
She is contesting the EC’s final tally and is calling for the court to annul the declaration or order a re-election in the constituency.
The petition lists five respondents:
- Charles Forson, the declared MP-elect.
- The Electoral Commission of Ghana.
- Otsuene Asante Manasseh, the District Electoral Officer for Tema Central.
- The Tema District Electoral Office.
- The Clerk of Parliament.
In her filing, Ebi Bright highlighted specific concerns regarding delays in the collation process, including claims that NPP polling agents at the Chemu SHS collation center interrupted the process at approximately 9:08 PM on election night.
She further alleges that this interference undermined the transparency of the final results and impacted the fairness of the election outcome.
According to the petition, the announcement of Charles Forson as MP-elect occurred under questionable circumstances, which Bright argues violates constitutional provisions and electoral regulations.
Ebi Bright’s legal representatives have requested the Supreme Court to rule on the validity of the results and ensure justice for the Tema Central electorate.
The petition also calls for all respondents to file their defense within eight days of service to prepare for the upcoming legal proceedings.
