Chairman of the Ad hoc Committee probing the vetting chaos on January 30, Emmanuel Bedzrah, has revealed that Asante Akim Central MP and Vice-Chair of the Committee, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi received an order from Minority leader to recuse himself from the Committee hearing.

On Wednesday, February 5, 2025 when hearing on the vetting chaos commenced, the Asante Akim Central MP was amongst committee members who begun the hearing and asked some witnesses questions until at a point requested to be excused briefly.

According to Mr. Bedzrah, the Vice-Chair after returning from the short break recused himself upon directive from Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

“You realize that the Vice-Chair was with us, he even asked questions. Along the line, he requested that he wants to meet with his leader. We were told that when he came back, the leader asked him to recuse himself and not to be part of the meeting again,” Bedzrah told journalists.

He further revealed that the Committee had invited one witness from the Minority Caucus but the MP turned down the invite saying his leader had asked him not to honour the invite.

“We had one of the witnesses from the other side who was coming but later sent a text that he’s not coming because his leader said he should not come,” he noted.

“This is a public interest issue, public properties were destroyed. The Speaker has formed this committee to look into it so I don’t see why people would be afraid or help the committee in its work,” Bedzrah added.

Seven Majority Members of Parliament including the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga and the Clerk to the Appointments Committee appeared as witnesses before the Committee at the first hearing on the chaos on Wednesday.

The hearing was suspended after an instruction from the Clerk to Parliament.
