Former Ghana International Agyemang-Badu has highlighted a lack of proper transition as the achilles heel of the Black Stars.
Agyemang-Badu, a World Cup winner with Ghana’s 2009 U20 side, profited from a seamless transition into the national setup.
After Ghana’s heroics in the 2009 U20 World Cup, Badu together with some of his teammates, including Andre Ayew, Jonathan Mensah, Dominic Adiyah, Ransford Osei among others were promoted to the Black Stars.
Their promotion a yielded instant impact as Ghana progressed to the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, eventually falling short to winners Egypt.
Addressing the issue of a lack of continuity hindering the effective progress of the Black Stars, Agyemang-Badu juxtaposed the current team to that of his generation on Sports Station.
“If you recall back our time, Sellas Tetteh went with Sadiq Adams, Ransford Osei, and all those guys. They came and prompted five of them. They met me, Samuel Inkoom and Others. Then we took the U20 to the World Cup and won it. When we came back, they selected seven of us to the 2010 AFCON, he said.
“When we reached the finals, we were beaten by Egypt. The big names were gradually going out and we took control of the national team. From there, the U20 have not been doing well. The U17 have not been doing well so you’re not getting the transition like our time,” he added.
The Black Stars are currently preparing to take on Chad on Friday in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, vying for a spot to a fifth-ever World Cup.
