New players at Unity Cup will give Black Stars coach 'a headache' - Faisal Chibsah

FIFA High-Performance Specialist, Faisal Chibsah, says the performances of some of the new players in the Black Stars squad during the 2025 Unity Cup will give the technical team a ‘headache’.

With many key players missing out on the four-nation tournament, Otto Addo used the games against Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago to give minutes to some of the young players in the team.

Some of the new faces grabbed the opportunity with open arms, something that delights Chibsah.

“It was exciting to see many new faces [in the national team]. I don’t think the calendar and the FIFA window allow coaches to give opportunities to new players they have not seen,” he said.

“This was the time to test new players, this is a time you can give your main players a break and offer new opportunities to new players. I was excited to see that.”

According to him, their performances will give the technical team sleepless nights as they would be looking at picking the best players for the next competitive assignment.

“Clearly, we’ve seen some that have made cases and arguments for themselves, so it’s a headache for the coach going into the September games,” he added.

“But the positive for me was the opportunity given to new faces, but that is for the coach to try something new, and it was positive. I am looking forward to seeing some of these new faces in September.”

Black Stars regroup again for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September.
