0 The TESCON Chapter of the SD Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies has strongly condemned a recent religious comment made by Dr Stephen Amoah, Member of Parliament for the Nhyeaso Constituency.
In a statement to the media, the group described the MP’s remarks as divisive and called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to take swift disciplinary action against him.
The statement comes in response to comments allegedly made by Dr Amoah during a capacity-building workshop organised by TESCON KNUST on Friday, June 20.
According to the SD Dombo TESCON Chapter, Dr. Amoah’s remarks had the potential to inflame religious tensions and derail the unity that the party and nation strive to uphold.
“We believe such utterances have no place in our democratic discourse,” the group said during a press conference held on Saturday, June 21.
They further cautioned that the use of religion and tribal identity in political campaigns could set a dangerous precedent ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The group’s leadership emphasised that the NPP has always stood for inclusivity and national unity, values they say are undermined by Dr Amoah’s comment.
“As a party that believes in merit, hard work, and national cohesion, we cannot afford to entertain rhetoric that seeks to divide us along religious or tribal lines,” the TESCON President stated. “We urge the party’s leadership to take the necessary steps to protect the integrity of the NPP by holding Dr Amoah accountable.”
TESCON at SD Dombo University concluded their address by calling on all well-meaning Ghanaians and NPP faithful to rise above religious and tribal politics.
They reiterated their commitment to fostering an environment of tolerance and mutual respect. “Ghana’s democracy must be built on ideas, policies, and vision—not on the manipulation of religious or tribal sentiments,” they said.
