Rebecca Ekpe, a seasoned journalist and dedicated member of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has formally declared her intention to contest for the position of Vice-President of the Association.

Currently serving as the GJA’s Current Affairs Officer, Ms Ekpe brings a wealth of experience, passion, and dedication to the race.

As part of her outreach to voters, Madam Ekpe paid a working visit to the Multimedia Group at Kokomlemle in Accra, where she engaged with a cross-section of journalists in the newsroom.

During the interaction, she outlined her vision for a more vibrant, inclusive, and responsive GJA, one that continues to prioritise the welfare and professional development of its members.

In her address, Ms Ekpe appealed to her colleagues to support her bid and vote for her as the next Vice-President.

She underscored her commitment to transparency, capacity building, and advocacy for improved working conditions for journalists across the country.

“I believe the time is right for a leadership that listens, learns, and leads with integrity,” she stated. “I am here not just to campaign but to listen, because your concerns are valid and must be addressed with urgency and seriousness.”

True to her word, Ms Ekpe listened attentively to the journalists she met, who raised a range of concerns, including job security, training opportunities, the safety of journalists in the line of duty, and the need for stronger representation of media practitioners at national decision-making fora.

In response, she assured them that these issues would be among her top priorities if elected.

Her visit was received with optimism and encouragement, with many journalists expressing appreciation for her approachable style and forward-thinking ideas.

Rebecca Ekpe’s campaign is expected to continue with visits to other media houses and regional branches of the GJA as she builds momentum ahead of the elections scheduled for Monday, 30th June 2025.
