Ghana midfielder Abdul Rashid Fuseini has revealed that his exceptional trial performance at English side Sheffield United once prompted the club to extend invitations to the entire Shooting Stars team.
The Slovenia-based player, currently 21, said the offer followed a trial during his formative years, where he defied initial doubts about Ghanaian talent and impressed the Blades’ scouts.
“I trialed at Sheffield United, and the first time I went there, they didn’t believe there was that much talent in Ghana,” Fuseini told Joy Sports.
“When I went there, I proved them wrong, and they were happy and decided to invite all the Shooting Stars players [for trials] so they could scout for more players.”
“Per our agreement, I was to come back to Ghana and then, after a few months, go back to train with them. That is how they make it happen until you turn 18, so they can find a way to help you.”
‘Sheffield Utd invited all the Shooting Stars players for trials because of me.’

The midfielder was speaking to Joy Sports’ Adamu Benin Abdul Karim in an interview scheduled to air on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 6:30 AM and 8:30 PM on Joy News.
The Sheffield United trial preceded later opportunities at Wolves, Manchester United, and Brentford. However, Fuseini could not secure a deal due to age restrictions and eventually moved to Serbian club Backa Topola.
He later joined Slovenian side Tabor in 2023, where he has spent the past two seasons working to revive his professional career.
