German automobile giant Volkswagen made waves on Tuesday, April 30, as it hosted a high-profile media launch at its sleek new office, nestled opposite the Spanish embassy.

The event aimed to unveil their latest car models to the press and disclose the eagerly awaited market release dates.

Among the esteemed guests were dignitaries such as the South African High Commissioner, Grace Jeanet Mason and Volkswagen Ghana’s CEO, Jeffrey J. O. Peprah, alongside Martina Biene, Managing Director and Chairperson of Volkswagen Group South Africa.

The spotlight of the launch shone on Volkswagen’s new lineup, proudly assembled by a dedicated Ghanaian team. The models showcased included the dynamic Virtus, the rugged Amarok, and the versatile Tiguan Allspace.

In her address to the media, Martina Biene, Managing Director and Chairperson of Volkswagen Group South Africa emphasized the importance of supporting the newly assembled Ghanaian models.

“It is German engineering with an African heart,” she declared. “We have proven it in South Africa already. You get top-notch safety, which is paramount on Ghana’s roads. You will experience the pinnacle of technology and German design that you’re bound to admire. I would also encourage patronage because these vehicles are locally manufactured in Ghana, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to the country. If you wish to drive not just a car but also the local economy forward, look no further.”

Volkswagen Ghana is aligned with government policies aimed at promoting locally manufactured products in the auto industry. A key aspect of this strategy involves facilitating access to competitive vehicle financing for those investing in locally assembled vehicles. This forthcoming initiative promises to offer attractive loan options, ensuring affordability and accessibility for consumers.

Jeffrey J. O. Peprah, CEO of Volkswagen Ghana, shared insights into these plans, stating, “We are eagerly awaiting the government’s implementation of policies that support locally assembled products, including favourable vehicle financing options. In anticipation of this, we are also developing our financial services tailored to meet the needs of our customers. These initiatives are crucial as financing plays a pivotal role in driving sales volume. By offering innovative financing solutions, we aim to make vehicle ownership more attainable for all.”
