Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and record producer Kuami Eugene has explained why he was reluctant to publicly announce his departure from Lynx Entertainment.
Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio, he said he preferred to focus on his future rather than dwell on his past with the label. He noted that in Ghana, it is common for artistes to highlight negative experiences after parting ways with a label, but he wanted to take a different path.
“I think I noticed one thing about when people leave record labels in this country, they spend so much time talking about, sorry to say, their bad experiences from where they came from than to focus on what you’re doing currently and that’s something I want to be a part of. I didn’t want to. While I was recording Monica and promotion of Monica, we were still in talks with my exits from Lynx Entertainment,” he said.
Kuami Eugene revealed that conversations about his exit began as far back as 2023, during the release of his song Monica. Despite the transition, he expressed gratitude for the role Lynx Entertainment played in his career and said he had the full support of the label’s CEO, Richie Mensah.
“It has been a very long journey with Lynx Entertainment. They’ve played a very massive role in my life. I’ve learned so much from Richie Mensah and I’m super glad that he gave me his blessings when it was time to go. He said eight years, Charlie, you almost hit a decade with us.”
He also shared that he remains on good terms with the label, attending Richie Mensah’s book launch recently and continuing to receive support from his former team.
“I’m still with Lynx, like I never left. I was at his book launch just two days ago, and it was fun. It was a blessing to see Richie, hug him like the father he’s been to me and, and was still cool. He texted me two days ago, thanking me for coming,” he stated.
Kuami Eugene urged fans and online users not to expect any bitter sentiments from him, but instead to focus on promoting his music.
“If I out my feelings, and then what? What I really need them to do is to go and listen to the Belinda, go and listen to the, the Monica, the bangers that I’m giving you,” he added.
Kuami Eugene recently released a new single titled Canopy, a highlife-inspired song that blends soulful vocals with modern rhythms. The track is already gaining traction on streaming platforms and reflects the artiste’s evolving sound and maturity post-Lynx.
