0 President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed that holding public office is a solemn responsibility to serve the people, not a privilege for personal enrichment.
Speaking at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving held in Accra, the President emphasised that leadership must be grounded in integrity, service, and accountability.
“Public office is not a privilege for personal gain. It is a sacred trust bestowed by the people, and there is a responsibility to serve all, especially the most vulnerable of us,” President Mahama stated.
He underscored the importance of accountability at all levels of leadership, stressing that even the presidency is subject to the rule of law.
“We must hold those in authority, including myself, accountable to the highest standard of integrity and humility,” he said.
“Even the office of the president, which I now hold, is not above the law. Leadership must be grounded in justice, in honesty, in reverence of God.”
The event brought together religious leaders, government officials, and citizens from across the country for a moment of spiritual reflection and national unity.
Themed “Reflect, Reset and Renew for National Prosperity,” the day served as a national call to return to values that promote justice, compassion, and shared progress.
President Mahama concluded by calling on all Ghanaian leaders and citizens alike to work together in building a more just, accountable, and prosperous Ghana.
