Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie remains uncertain about his potential candidacy for the GFA presidency following two unsuccessful attempts.

Afriyie faced defeat in the 2019 presidential election against Kurt Okraku and was subsequently disqualified from last year’s election, where Okraku ran unopposed and secured a second term.

Despite challenging his disqualification at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Afriyie’s efforts were unsuccessful. CAS upheld the Elections Committee’s initial decision, confirming Okraku’s victory and ending Afriyie’s aspirations.

Afriyie accepted the CAS ruling gracefully, stating to Graphic Sports, “Nobody knows tomorrow. I have not taken any decision yet, but in life, you just have to focus and do what you want to do, and then when there is time and opportunity to do anything, why not.”

“I just gave my opinion, and I said per what the CAS ruling is, I have accepted it [CAS ruling], so we move.”

Afriyie was appointed Vice President of the GFA in November 2015, serving under Kwesi Nyantakyi, who was President of the Ghanaian football regulatory body from December 30, 2005, until June 7, 2018.

He previously served as the chief executive officer of Swedru All Blacks, securing a kit sponsorship deal with Mizuno during his tenure. Under his leadership, All Blacks achieved promotion back to the Ghana Premier League from Division in 2005.

Later, in 2010, he acquired Division One League side Unity FC and guided them to the Middle League qualification from their zone in 2011.

Currently, he holds the position of director at Liberty Professionals, a role he has maintained for the past decade. Additionally, he is the owner and President of Division One League side Planners Athletic Club.
