Ghana’s golfing community is gearing up for the 2025 International Pairs Tournament, with qualifiers scheduled to tee off in May following an official launch event on April 23 at the Montgomery Golf Estate in East Legon Hills.

Organized by Legends Sports Management (LSM), the exclusive Ghanaian licensee of the global golf series, the tournament aims to amplify the sport’s popularity while offering amateur players a pathway to international competition.

The launch will feature a morning golf event followed by an evening ceremony highlighting the tournament’s branding and honoring key contributors. Attendees, including club executives, sponsors, and media representatives, will experience South African-themed cuisine, a nod to the World Finals host nation. Since its Ghanaian debut in 2023 under LSM CEO Abdul-Aziz Amankwa, the 27-year-old tournament has become a staple on the local circuit, known for its two-person team format where combined scores determine advancement.

Qualifiers begin May 3 at Tema Centre of the World Golf Club, with subsequent rounds at Accra-area courses like Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono. The competition then moves to the Western Region for a three-course rotation before concluding in Kumasi’s Royal Golf Club on May 31. The top 30% of participants at each qualifier will progress to the National Playoff on August 2 at Achimota Golf Club, where the winning pair secures an all-expenses-paid trip to the World Finals in Sun City, South Africa.

“Our goal is to fuel Ghana’s growing appetite for golf through structured, competitive platforms,” said Amankwa, whose LSM holds exclusive rights to organize the event locally. Beyond national pride, top finishers will receive trophies and sponsor prizes, though attendance at the invitation-only launch underscores the event’s curated stakeholder focus.

The tournament’s expansion reflects Ghana’s rising profile in African golf, with facilities like the Montgomery Estate attracting regional attention. However, challenges remain in broadening participation beyond urban centers and securing sustained sponsorship. Past editions have seen Ghanaian teams compete against over 30 countries, though a podium finish at the World Finals remains elusive.

As global interest in African golf grows, events like the International Pairs offer a litmus test for the sport’s commercial viability on the continent. For Ghana, success hinges not just on nurturing talent but on aligning corporate partnerships with grassroots development—a balance that will determine whether such tournaments evolve from prestige projects into engines of sporting equity.
