[Mobile Reporter Choi Soo-hyun] Gwangju City is introducing ‘Corporate Carbon Action’ for the first time in the country to support local companies’ voluntary greenhouse gas reduction.

Gwangju Metropolitan City signed a ‘Corporate Carbon Action Agreement for Gwangju 2045 Carbon Neutrality’ with 12 small and medium-sized companies and the Korea Energy Agency at the City Hall Business Room on the 30th.

‘Corporate Carbon Action’ is a program in which local small and medium-sized companies that do not have a legal reduction obligation voluntarily reduce greenhouse gases and simulate emissions trading.

According to this agreement, Gwangju City plans to support corporate carbon action companies, evaluate and reward their performance, and expand special benefits to revitalize the policy.

Participating companies will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 11% by 2030 and provide information such as energy usage.

Additionally, we plan to conduct simulated trading on emissions credits generated through reduction.

Korea Energy Agency, which participated in the agreement, is a representative energy management public institution and plans to support participating companies in energy diagnosis and efficiency improvement.

Participating companies are △Korea Alps Co., Ltd. △Autech Carrier Co., Ltd. △Hwacheon Machinery Co., Ltd. △Arne Korea Co., Ltd. △Gwangju Global Motors △Hanyoung P&S Co., Ltd. △Green Tech Co., Ltd. △Hyundai Hi-Tech Co., Ltd. △Hi Korea Co., Ltd. △Mudeung Gioppyeong-dong Co., Ltd. Enterprise Co., Ltd. △There are 12 companies including Joint Tree Co., Ltd.

Gwangju City has been recruiting participating companies since November of last year, and completed building an operating system for corporate greenhouse gas emissions management and simulated emissions trading in April.

Participating companies said, “There is already a demand for corporate change in line with global trends such as carbon neutrality and 100 renewable energy.”

“Although there is no legal obligation, we participated to preemptively respond to the road to securing future competitiveness,” he said, adding, “Companies will actively cooperate as Gwangju City and the Korea Energy Agency provide active support,” and expressed their will to reduce greenhouse gases.

Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jeong said, “The Corporate Carbon Action, which was introduced for the first time in Korea, is where companies first pledged to reduce greenhouse gases even though the government did not regulate it. Although it is not something that shines or is recognized by anyone right now, I am confident that it is a big step for the future and a huge undertaking.” do.

“As the climate crisis is a problem that requires everyone to act immediately, Gwangju City will do its best to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.”

“The 12 local companies will take action immediately to reduce greenhouse gases by 11% by 2030, and Gwangju City will also be able to realize a ‘2045 carbon neutral city’, 5 years earlier than the government plan,” he said.
