Chelsea have named Sonia Bompastor, the former Lyon manager, as their new coach on a four-year deal, succeeding the highly esteemed Emma Hayes.

The club has reached an agreement with Lyon for compensation for the 43-year-old Bompastor, who had a year left on her contract with the French club. She steps into the role following Hayes’ departure at the end of the season to take charge of the United States women’s national team.
