The Ghana U20 women’s team, the Black Princesses, will learn their opponents for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

The draw will be held in Bogota, Colombia, and will determine the group-stage matchups for the tournament.

This year’s edition of the U-20 Women’s World Cup sees an expansion from 16 to 24 teams, a significant increase that allows more nations to compete on the global stage.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will be represented by four teams: Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Morocco, doubling the previous allotment of two slots.

The Black Princesses, making their seventh consecutive appearance at the biennial competition, will be hoping to improve on their past performances.

Despite their consistent qualification since their debut in 2010, they have yet to advance beyond the group stage. The team will aim to break this streak and achieve greater success in Colombia.

Ghana will be represented at the draw by head coach Yussif Basigi and Hannah Ofosu Asare, the Administrative Manager of the National Teams Department. Their participation underscores the importance of this tournament for the development and visibility of women’s football in Ghana.

The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 22, 2024.

The Black Princesses’ preparation and recent form provide a beacon of hope for a successful campaign. Earlier this year, the team won the women’s football tournament at the 2023 African Games, with standout performances from players like Mukarama Abdulai.

As the draw date approaches, anticipation builds for the Black Princesses and Ghanaians who are eager to see how their team will fare against the world’s best young talents.

The team is determined to leverage their recent achievements and break the jinx of early exits, aiming for a historic run in this year’s competition.
