The running mate for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged traders in the Upper West Region to strongly give their utmost support to the party’s flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama to become the next president of Ghana.

According to the Vice-Presidential Candidate, the NDC and the former President remain the best choice particularly for traders to enhance the economic benefits of their trading activities.

The soft-spoken Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang was speaking in Wa after she took her campaign to the Wa market on the eve of the Eid-ul-Adha celebration where she was met with cheers and a rousing welcome by the market women and traders.

While engaging with the traders, largely women, the NDC’s Vice Presidential candidate expressed worry over the cost of foodstuff and highlighted that John Dramani Mahama and the NDC truly understand the needs of women and traders, asserting that businesses will flourish under an NDC administration if they win the 2024 polls.

Prof Jane recounts some of the interventions undertaken by the then-Mahama administration in support of traders.

“We built this market, we take care of women. We created and expanded this market and the market is for women”, she stated.

She expressed worry over the low sales recorded by traders and the surge in food prices as reported to her.

Rafiatu Fuseini, an onion seller at the Wa Market has been shedding light on the impact of the economy on their business and families.

Haruna Hamidu, a chief butcher while lamenting the hardship called for a change in government.

To him, it is time for the country to bring John Mahama and his 24-hour economy to rescue them.

Another trader, Nafisah Sombo said “you have seen things for yourselves when you went round the market.

Some food items like fresh pepper, tomatoes, oil, and rice are scarce. The little available are costly and we can’t buy it.

In the era of John Mahama, a box of tomatoes was sold at a maximum of GHC500.00, but now is GHC1000.00 and GHC2000.00. A pack of Maggi cubes which used to be GHC15.00 is now sold at 50.00 all things are taking a toll on us”.
