The GKL Wheelchair Fencing Team, a Sejong City-based team, won 4 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medals at the ‘2024 Korea Open National Wheelchair Fencing Championship’, proving their best skills in Korea.
The tournament, which was held at the Gyeongsang National University Gymnasium for three days from the 21st to the 23rd, was attended by 130 people, including 70 athletes and 60 officials and personnel from all over the country.
Sejong City athletes competed in three events: foil, épée, and sabre.
First, Shim Jae-hoon, a member of the GKL wheelchair fencing team, won gold medals in the épée A and foil A finals held on the 22nd.
He also won the gold medal in the Sabre A final held the next day, becoming the third gold medalist in the tournament, proving that he is the strongest in wheelchair fencing.
Park Chun-hee, a member of the GKL wheelchair fencing team, also won a gold medal in foil B and a bronze medal in sabre B held on the 22nd.
Park Chun-hee won a silver medal in the Epee B held the next day, and won 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal in the competition, raising the status of Sejong City.
