(Seongnam = Provided by Yonhap News) [ipn News] President Yoon Seok-yeol went on a five-day visit to the United States on the 8th to attend the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit.
President Yoon and his wife, First Lady Kim Kun-hee, departed from Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province on this day on Air Force No. 1, the presidential plane. It has been 23 days since he returned from a trip to three Central Asian countries on the 16th of last month.
Presidential Chief of Staff Jeong Jin-seok, Presidential Office Policy Director Sung Tae-yoon, People Power Party Emergency Response Committee Chairman Hwang Woo-yeo, Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho, and Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min lined up in front of Air Force Unit 1 to send off President Yoon and his wife.
President Yoon, wearing a dark blue suit and red tie, and First Lady Kim, wearing a dark gray jacket, black skirt suit, and carrying a black bag, shook hands with the farewell guests one by one.
President Yoon then raised his hand and said hello, and Mrs. Kim bowed her head twice and then boarded Air Force Unit 1.
President Yoon will visit Hawaii and Washington DC one by one during his visit to the US, which continues until the 11th.
First, on the 8th, we will visit the Pacific National Cemetery in Honolulu, Hawaii, and have a dinner meeting with our compatriots. On the 9th, he plans to visit the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command to confirm the strong ROK-U.S. alliance and security posture.
President Yoon then moves to Washington DC and holds a series of bilateral meetings with the leaders of more than five NATO member countries, including the Czech Republic, Sweden, Finland, and Norway, and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on the 10th.
A fellowship dinner hosted by President Joe Biden and his wife of the United States, the host country of the summit, is also scheduled.
On the 11th, President Yoon will attend the NATO Summit, the plenary session, after proceeding with the summit of Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, NATO’s four Indo-Pacific partners (IP4).
He will also attend the NATO Public Forum co-hosted by NATO and five think tanks in the U.S. and Europe and deliver a speech as the sole speaker in the Indo-Pacific session.
President Yoon will be the first president in our history to attend the NATO Summit for three consecutive years.
